The Proposal
Let me address the most commonly-asked question, NO, it was not entirely a surprise. I knew he was going to propose since we had talked about an engagement a few months prior. But I did not know when exactly or which day he was going to do it, or how it was going to happen.
Where?
Don chose to propose in Maui since we had vacationed there a few times prior and both consider it to be one of our most favorite places on earth.
When?
November 8, 2012
How?
That morning, Don was being very secretive about the plans altogether. All the usuals happened: we went to the beach, had lunch, got back to the hotel and got ready for a fun day! Don usually never cares about how I look but said to me as I was getting ready..."make sure your hair is pretty!!". haha.
And then we arrived at a helicopter pad. I was very suspicious especially since it was just the two of us and the pilot. I was getting nervous and thought OK...he's going to do it now. In my mind, I ran through the different scenarios...maybe he's going to do it right before we got on, or maybe in the helicopter, or maybe as soon as we got off the helicopter. Well, in a very Don-esque fashion, the pilot landed at the incredibly scenic Ulupalakua Ranch on the slopes of Haleakala. I KNEW that this was THE moment! I got more nervous than ever, and so was he.
As we were surrounded by a panoramic view of the ocean, with just the two of us and our friendly pilot, overlooking the entire island of Maui, Don got on his knees and proposed. I remember saying YES...and he was still on his knees. I said Yes again, and he was still on his knees. [he didn't know what to do, it was his first time!]. And after a third yes, I said "Do you want to put the ring on for me?" He finally got up and finally put a ring on it. We cried, hugged, and kissed. We cried some more. And drank some champagne.
The end :)
